Angus has more than 30 years’ experience in the investment industry both in the UK and his home country of South Africa. He began as a stockbroker and partner in Fergusson Bros, Hall Stewart & Co before emigrating to Britain in 1986.His roles included chief executive posts at Sanwa and Credit Suisse asset management. In 1999, he returned to South Africa as chief executive of Sanlam Investment Management. Angus holds a number of non-executive directorships including Sanlam UK, Sanlam Life and Pensions, Intrinsic Financial Services, Nucleus Financial Group, and Principal Investment Management.
Prior to forming Punter Southall with Stuart Southall in 1988, Jonathan began his actuarial career with Duncan C Fraser and Co in 1978, where he became a partner within seven years.With more than 30 years’ experience in the actuarial profession – and with particular expertise in the areas of UK pensions and investment strategy – Jonathan is also a specialist on issues surrounding pensions in mergers, buy-outs and due diligence deals. A director of several investment companies in London and Dublin, he is also a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
Group Managing Director
Kenneth joined Punter Southall in 1993 with a focus on widening the range of our activities. He remains responsible for the strategic development of Punter Southall Group and is a director of its principal operating subsidiaries.Previously, he worked in a large UK pensions consultancy before taking an MBA at INSEAD and then worked in financial management and corporate strategy consulting in Geneva, London and Paris. Kenneth graduated from City University with a degree in Actuarial Science and is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
Lukas van der Walt
With a background in corporate finance, qualified accountant Lukas was part of the Sanlam team which bought Merchant Investors, which became Sanlam Investments and Pensions in 2004, where he was made CEO in 2008.In the same year he was also appointed to the boards of the Sanlam UK group of companies comprising Punter Southall Group Limited, Intrinsic Financial Services Limited, Buckles Holdings Limited (now Sanlam Private Wealth UK Holding Limited), Nucleus Financial Group Limited and Principal Holdings Limited. He is currently Chairman of both Sanlam Private Wealth UK Holding Limited and Principal Holdings Limited.
Attie du Plessis
Chairman of Business South Africa, Attie also holds a number of other chairmanship and director posts including those within the Sanlam Group, Billiton, Gencor and ABSA Group.He has served on numerous boards and specialist committees throughout his career. A chartered accountant and graduate of Harvard University’s advanced management programme, he chaired the RAU university trust and council and was a trustee with the University of Stellenbosch. He was also a member of the Organising Committee of 1991 National Peace Initiative.
Clive Bannister is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer of The Phoenix Group. Previously, he was Group Managing Director of Insurance and Asset Management at HSBC, which he joined in 1994, holding various leadership roles in planning and strategy in the investment Bank (USA). He was also Group General Manager and CEO HSBC Group Private Banking.He started his career at First National Bank of Boston and was also a partner in Booz Allen Hamilton in the financial service practice, providing strategic support to leading insurance companies, banks and investment banks.
With senior roles in investment teams at global asset management companies including AllianceBernstein and Schroders, Sandra has a strong track record in developing investment strategies, together with managing risk and compliance in an increasingly regulated and challenging environment.Previously head of fixed income at BNP Paribas, she held a similar position with Credit Suisse Asset Management. Sandra also holds the UKSIP Level 3, Certificate in Investment Management, and has completed the Investment Management Programme at the London Business School. She is currently Honorary Secretary of the Society of Business Economists.Sandra also carried out research projects at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research after gaining her economics degree from the London School of Economics.
With board experience in both complex organisations and early stage environments, Mandy brings a background in strong strategic planning and operational management to the Group. A chartered accountant by training, she spent 18 years with Ernst and Young before using her skills to nurture the growth of companies, serving on the board of a diverse range of start-up businesses. Mandy is a Trustee of The Institute of Cancer Research, where she also chairs the audit committee. She has also holds the FT Non-Executive Diploma, focusing on corporate governance.
